Statement Of Experience

The firm has successfully handled various matters for a cross section of clientele in all sectors of the economy locally and internationally. Some of the assignments include:

Corporate Transactions

  • The Firm has advised a mobile phone operator in Uganda on the tax implications of a $100 million loan facility for the network upgrade from an International Lender.
  • The Firm advised BMO Nesbilt on a 3 Million Dollar transaction and also conducted a due diligence on the Flemish Group.
  • We have advised on Investment Tax Incentives for Meera Investments Ltd on investments in Real estate where the Tax incentives obtained were in the sum of Ushs. 36 Billion (US $ 18 million).

Tax Advisory, Litigation and Refunds

  • Tax Advisory on Tax Exemptions to the Uganda Communications Commission in the sum of Ushs.4 Billion (about US $ 2 million).
  • Tax Advisory on Tax Refunds for Golden Leaves and Resorts Ltd and Sheraton Kampala Hotel resulting in Ushs. 3.3 Billion (US $1.55 million) refunds for the client.
  • We have done tax advisory services for other clients such as Uganda Development Bank Ltd involving over Ushs. 6 billion (US $ 3 million).

Tax Consulting:

  • Our firm has also advised energy company Eskom on a range of tax matters.
  • Consultancy Services for the Study on Revenue Generation, Revenue Utilization, Revenue Sharing and Mechanisms for Land Sector Fiscal Transfer for the Government of the Republic of Uganda.
  • We have conducted a study on the Reform of Business Levies on behalf of the Ministry of Local Government of the Republic of Uganda.
  • Together with the GTZ, the firm is conducting a project to harmonize East African Tax Laws for East African Community Partner States (Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda & Burundi).
  • The Firm, together with TATA Consulting Services of India is undertaking the Modernization and Computerization of Tax Management Systems in the Uganda Revenue Authority.
  • The firm is also currently undertaking the project for benchmarking and drafting the Internal Revenue Code of Liberia which is set for completion by July 2010.
